Over the next five years, the nine countries of the western Indian Ocean region, including Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa and Tanzania, will work together through the Agulhas and Somali Current Large Marine Ecosystems (ASCLME) project.
In June and July, 10 young oceanographers from the national institutions, universities, fisheries and environment ministries of five African countries, participated in an intensive training course hosted and facilitated by the Marine Research Institute at the University of Cape Town. The training course was designed to prepare the oceanographers to actively participate in the forthcoming cruise of the Norwegian research ship, Dr Fridtjof Nansen.
