Agulhas and Somali Current Large Marine Ecosystems Project

Boa vinda a ASCLME 

Ao longo dos próximos cinco anos, os nove países da região Oeste do Oceano Índico, incluindo Comores, Quénia, Madagáscar, Maurícias, Moçambique, Seicheles, Somália, África do Sul e Tanzânia, irão trabalhar em conjunto através do projecto do Grande Ecossistema Marinho das Correntes de Agulhas e Somali (ASCLME).

Estrutura institucional

O Projecto ASCLME é orientado ao nível político e estratégico por um Comité Directivo do Projecto (PSC), composto por membros principais incluindo um representante de cada país participante e um representante de cada uma das seguintes instituições:

  • Programa Africano do Ecossistema do Celacanto (ACEP)
  • Programa das Nações Unidas para o Desenvolvimento (PNUD)
  • Nova Parceria para o Desenvolvimento de África (NEPAD)
  • Fundo de Ambiente Global (GEF)
  • Escritório das Nações Unidas para os Serviços de Projecto (UNOPS)
  • Convenção de Nairobi
  • Gestores de projecto dos projectos regionais irmãos SWIOFP e WIO-LaB
  • Programa Regional de Gestão Costeira dos Países do Oceano Índico (ReCoMaP)

A Somália tem estatuto especial como país observador.

Poderá ser acordada pelos membros principais do PSC a inclusão de outros membros observadores. Tal incluiria agências doadoras garantindo co-financiamento (ex. França, Noruega) e agências técnicas (ex. NOAA, FAO).

“This is the second meeting of the PSC and from the discussions I have had with other countries, everyone is much more aware of the Project at this point. In comparison to other countries, Mozambique is a little bit behind in terms of knowing and understanding the project, what it is to produce and what its outcomes and outputs are to be. However, a lot of issues have been clarified at this meeting and the PCU has achieved a lot in its first year.

Now we are going into a crucial phase; the foundations have been laid and the project will have more visibility in the countries. The PCU has all the different groups (data and information; training and capacity building; communication; and policy and governance) in place and they are now prepared to deal with the countries intensively.

In the future Mozambique will be more involved in this project. I believe that the ASCLME Project will be useful to the region and to our country.”
